Weekly Wrap-Up: Mimi G's Conference & 90's Concert! ~ Diane's Vintage Zest!

Weekly Wrap-Up: Mimi G's Conference & 90's Concert!

I am really, really tired from this weekend.  Let's all see why!

Precap (jump to):

Friday

For dinner, we went to have a quick dinner at Sapporo Sushi because I was working on a dress to wear to the sewing convention the next day.  Spoiler alert, but I totally looked pregnant!  Anyways, for dinner I had a sushi combo with a Zen Roll, which apparently was the waitress' favorite roll.  Yum!

Saturday

It was Day 1 of the conference, so we had lots to do!  I met up with Mo, fellow Stitch Once, Rip Twice member who let me be her plus one!  We received lots of goodies in the cute tote bag, including Fabric swatch notebook, 3 patterns, fabric scissors, a tape measure, 3 spools of thread, and a coupon for a free pattern from mimi g.  I think I'm going to get infamous royal maxi skirt with sash because I love the short version!

Then, we headed to Michael Levine for breakfast, yet another goodie bag, and fabric shopping!  The goodie bag had a reusable beverage cup, bobbins, elastic, and a needle sharpener.

Here's a peek at some of the attendees!  First stop was The Loft!  Digging through the fabrics in the bins, I came up with a few finds.  I'll definitely share later!

Then, we headed across to the street to the main store.  I didn't get anything here, but I made a mental note of fabric that I'll have to buy when my fabric stash starts to dwindle.

Afterwards, we headed out into the rest of the district, where I showed Mo some of the bargaining techniques, and we made our way through narrow mazes of fabric in the discount stores.  I did buy some fabric here because some of the deals were too good to pass up!  Check out the crazy yellow, feathery fabric in the bottom right corner.  Weird!

After the fabric shopping, we had lunch and Mimi explained how to use a pattern.  Good refresher!

Afterwards, I booked it down to Irvine for the Goo Goo Dolls & Matchbox 20 concert with my guy and a few of his friends.  We sat on the lawn and had a fun time reminiscing.  I used to go to concerts all the time here, but I hadn't been back in forever.  Definitely a blast from the past!

Sunday

I somehow dragged myself out of bed to make it to the second day of the sewing event.  I didn't take any pictures, but we heard from guest speakers on how to embellish, make pattern changes, and style to suit your body.  Definitely useful information!

For lunch, I met up with some ladies and we went to The Farm where I had a Buffalo Bleu burger.  I ate THE WHOLE THING plus the fries.  I guess I was hungry!

At the end of the day, I asked Mimi a couple of questions, including how to fix the disaster dress that I was initially going to wear.  I took some pictures with Mimi and Vanessa of Crafty Gemini, and that was it!

By the end of the event, I had met a ton of super nice ladies and a few of them have even joined Stitch Once, Rip Twice!  By the time I got home, I was so tired and ended up going to sleep before 8 pm.  So much info, so many people, and so so sleepy...

Monday & Tuesday

I haven't done a single fun thing since, except fold my fabric and organize my tubs of sewing supplies.  I'm such a nerd that it's actually kind of exciting that all of my fabric is organized.  :)  Maybe I'll take pictures and share, especially if I actually get to take inventory of my entire fabric stash, like I resolved once upon a time.

Hopefully, this weekend is a bit less activity-filled and a little closer to home.  I definitely don't miss driving so far to commute to work, and this reminded me of how much I used to drive back in the day!  I'm too lazy to look at my calendar, but I know we have something planned for this weekend.  In a way, I hope it's not too long so I can get some sewing done.  Maybe I can even get to our next challenge, which I'll announce tomorrow!

  1. Wow, that was a fun weekend and conference! I'm so glad I attended and met you. I'm looking forward to making my 60's dress and having a group of other sewists that I can share it with. And... in my fabric and fangirl haze this weekend, I didn't even realize that Mimi gave us a free pattern download! Woo hoo!

  2. I know! Which one are you going to get? I know she said that she would have more tutorials up too, but I can't remember which ones.

  3. I can't remember which ones either. I lean towards the Regal Maxi right now, but I don't think that one is too difficult, esp if you have the right fabric. I'll probably wait and see for a while; hopefully something new will grab me.

  4. You did have a full and fun weekend Diane. I was tired Sunday night because the flight back home was delayed by 3 hours. My plan is to catch plenty of zzzzzzs this weekend. Fingers crossed!
