Weekly Update: My Birthday in Vegas! ~ Diane's Vintage Zest!

Weekly Update: My Birthday in Vegas!

I hope you didn't mind my weekly update being up a day late, but I still wanted to share my second time in Las Vegas since starting the blog!  We are definitely there a bunch.  :)

Precap: Boubouffe GrillAquaKnox, outlet shopping, Public HouseBouchonPostrio

Wednesday

I bought an online deal to Boubouffe Grill that was going to expire, so we hit it up.  It was so much better than I expected!

We started with an appetizer sampler with falafel, feta-stuffed African peppers, hummus, babaganoush, and spiced cauliflower.  Yum!

For our entrees, I had a grilled veggie sandwich but the beef shwarma was seriously good too!

Friday

If you follow me on Twitter, you would know that we headed to Vegas for the weekend!

When we got there, we had a couple of hours to kill, so we took in the sights.  Then, we went to a show with Human Nature, a 4-man group from Australia who sing Motown records.  Seriously!  They were pretty good, but I didn't take any pictures during the performance, so you'll have to see for yourself!

After the show, we were famished and went to AquaKnox.  It was so delicious!  Below, you see an amuse bouche of tuna tartar, my seafood "soup", surf and turf, and a halibut.  It was all REALLY good!

For an after-dinner drink my guy ordered an Absinthe, which was accompanied a serious presentation, which I documented in pictures!

1) Pour the absinthe over a sugar cube
2) Light the sugar on fire to caramelize it.
3) Run water over the sugar until it's completely gone.
4) Enjoy!

Dessert was delicious.  We ordered 4 off the menu!  Banana cream pie (the best one!), butterscotch bread pudding (eh), vanilla creme brulee (always a hit), and the lemon cream cheesecake.

Saturday

The next day, we went to the outlets for some shopping.  I didn't buy much except a couple of Banana Republic skirts (I always find a good deal) and a bunch of new workout tops.

I also got a couple of ideas for future sewing projects.  I like the weird twisty strap on this dress, which would be good for a top.  This dress with the paneling is cuter in person, but would be really fun to wear!

When we got back to the hotel, we went to Public House, one of the men's favorite gastropubs.  They all got beer, but I was in for the food!

This is bone marrow and Welsh Rarebit.  Yum!

The shortribs and pea mash was possibly even better.  :)

Afterwards, we just walked around the casino until dinner time.  We went to Bouchon, which is yes, the same place we went for Mother's Day!  The pictures are really dark, so sorry in advance!

The folded up paper menu, the view from our table, and the pretty bread!

I was still a little stuffed from lunch, so I ordered the Salade Maraichere (a salad with goat cheese) to start.  A few of the mains that other people got were this yummy halibut and the beef served in this beautiful copper dish!

I decided to order the tomato soup (I order it all the time) and a cheese plate as my entree(s).  If I remember correctly, from I had the (left to right) L'Explorateur, Fleur Verte, and Little Boy Blue.  It was served with the raisin bread to the right, and I was perfectly content!

By the time it got to dessert, I was already stuffed, so I didn't try any.  This is possibly the first time it's happened in the last 10 years!  I still wanted to share all the cute pictures.  :)

Sunday

Just before we left, we had some lunch at Postrio.  It was brunch, so we had a combination of people ordering breakfast and lunch!

A beautiful Caesar salad, Margharita pizza, corn beef hash, and spring pea agnolotti.  Natural light makes every picture look extra beautiful, even from a phone!

Look at these jelly-filled beignets!  As you can tell, we have a weakness for anything donut or beignet related!  If they're on the menu, we're ordering them.  :)

Well now that I'm back, it's a good thing I bought those workout clothes, because I am on a mission to work off some of this food.  Once "June gloom" passes, I'm going to want to hit the pool!

This weekend, we're finishing off my birthday fun by using a bunch of online deals that are going to expire soon.  I'm telling you now, just prepare for next week's wacky recap!

Anything fun this weekend for you guys?

  1. Thanks! And I honestly can say that the pictures don't do the food justice. In Vegas, I'm definitely guilty of giving in to gluttony... :)

  2. Thanks! It was my first time having Welsh rarebit, and I loooved it. You'd fit in with my family, since we're big cheese fans!
