What Makes Your Kid Extraordinary?

As many of you loyal readers know, I spend a lot of time with my niece, who I call my little buddy.  :)  Now that it is summer time, she is off from school and has more free time.  We have lots of fun outings and crafty projects planned, which I cannot wait for!

I wanted to take a moment and acknowledge some of the extraordinary things about my niece and why we have such a strong bond.  Plus, together we put together an easy video that turned out absolutely adorable!

What Makes Your Kid Extraordinary?

1.  She loves to learn!

The little one just loves to find out about anything she can.  One day, she'll rattle off tons of facts about space that she found out from school, educational shows, books, and everywhere else.  The next day, it will be about the Grand Canyon, or whatever subject she's interested in.  The cutest thing is that her enthusiasm is absolutely infectious, and you can't help but be interested in what she is telling you.

2.  She is the friendliest kid!

Ever since she was a little kid, she always wanted to be around people and talk to them.  If she remembered a friend that she hadn't spoken to in a while, she would ask over and over again if she could visit them.  The funniest thing is that she sees no distinction between adults and kids!  Yes, she respects her elders, but surprisingly she will talk to an adult as much as she will a kid her own age.

3.  She listens.

This may not seem like much, but along with loving to learn, she listens and absorbs what you have to say to her.  So, even though she is super friendly and gabs non-stop, she does not mind having quiet time with me while I study, simply because I asked.  It doesn't matter what healthy things I give her to eat, she never complains.  In fact, sometimes she asks why some foods are good for her, just so she knows for "next time."

4.  She loves being helpful.

Yes, we do lots of fun art projects together, we go shopping, and I give her gifts like crazy.  However, sometimes I have to do something "boring" like go out for errands, organize something, or just do work on the computer.  She always wants to help!  In fact, I'm pretty sure she threads my sewing machine more than I do nowadays!

5.  She is as sweet as pie!

She happens to be the first of the nieces and nephews born by more than a few years, and she is an only child.  That would normally spell disaster because she might not know how to share or end up acting bratty with other kids and adults.  I don't know why we were worried, because she ended up being so sweet.  She loves greeting people hello and giving hugs.  She is always genuinely excited to see people and loves to share with the littler kids.  It's so cute!

What Makes Your Kid Extraordinary?

My little niece is extraordinary just like the children in your life.  It's not just the big things, but it's the little things that makes her so special.  Together, we created this cute video using Stanford Children's Health and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital's easy tool, and we ended up making a couple more later that day!

Now, it's your turn!  Create a personalized video that captures what makes your kid one-of-a-kind!

While you are there, check out the rest of Stanford Children's Health's website.  It is the largest Bay Area healthcare provider, with an exclusive focus on children and expectant women.  They have a commitment to "providing extraordinary care for healthier happy lives," so make sure to read up!
