Weekly Wrap-Up: Sewing, Ethnic foods & Movie time!

This week was a doozy!  What with the holiday and three day weekend, I feel completely off.  Besides, I have been fighting a sore throat this whole week and my sleep patterns are as terrible as can be.

Still, I found time to squeeze in some fun things to do.  :)  Here's what I was up to!

Thursday

I had a little bit of time, so I broke out the sewing machine to repair a couple of items for the gym.  My knee brace had lost its hook & loop tape (AKA Velcro) "stickiness" and I had a little hole in my weight lifting gloves.  They're as good as new now!

Friday

I had my cousin's kid over for one last time before school started.  Yes, she's the same little buddy whom I took school supply shopping and the one that I gave sewing lessons to.  I killed two birds with one stone and got started on my maxi dress for The Sew Weekly Reunion, while showing her a few things like how to hem neatly.  Those are her itty bitty hands in the first picture of the post!

Saturday

I finished up the dress, photographed it, and got it ready for this post!  I love the dress so much, that I ended up wearing it right away!

Weekly Wrap-Up

Later that night, we headed to Simmzy's for dinner.  This has been the fourth time I've been here since starting the blog.  Click to see visits 1, 2, & 3.  I guess it's a favorite of mine!

I had the Shrimp, Citrus & Avocado Salad.  My tablemates had the Drunken Chili and burgers.  Man, it's hard to be healthy sometimes!

Weekly Wrap-Up

I held out for as long as I could until dessert came.  The Chocolate Truffle Bread Pudding was AMAZING!  We love bread pudding, and this one did not disappoint.  Not too sweet, but not too bitter from the chocolate.  Absolute perfection!

Also, take a look at how cool the place is.  Long tables with cool light fixtures above.  A huge beer menu written on a chalkboard with a copper bar.  I love it!

Sunday

This is super boring, but the most significant part of my day was backing up my computer.  My computer was down to a measly 2 GB of storage space.  Thus, I had flash drives to store my stuff on.  Remember this debacle?  Since then, I've filled up two 16 GB drives and 2 GB on the third one so far...  I figured that this is no way to live, with photos and documents scattered all over the place, with none of them backed up.

I enlisted my old external hard drive (on the right), so I could move all 53GB of my music from my computer to free up space.  The old files on the old HD had to be sorted through and important ones were moved onto the computer.  All of the flash drive files got moved and organized onto my computer, and then I backed everything up onto the new external HD.  Whew!!!  Now, I'm completely organized and functional with three spare flash drives.  Yay!

Now, I've even built a weekly back-up session into my weekend plans to make sure I never lose any data.  Go me!

Weekly Wrap-Up

Monday

We actually didn't have any family plans for Labor Day, so we went to a Filipino restaurant.  It's probably because last week we went to the Asian market, remember?

I had never been to Maria's Kusina before, but we went there because my mom had apparently liked the restaurant that was originally in the location.   It had changed owners and names, but since it was a similar restaurant, we just decided to go ahead and eat there anyways.

We ordered some Mami, which is a noodle soup with your choice of meat and noodles.  Delish!

Weekly Wrap-Up

The Siopao are steamed buns filled with different meats.  All of us ordered the different meats.  I ordered the chicken asado, which was sooo good!  It came with a hard boiled egg in the middle too. That was a yummy surprise!

Weekly Wrap-Up

For dessert, we were stuffed, but we still ordered the Halo Halo and the Mais Con Yelo, a dessert with sweet corn, milk, and ice.  Perfect for a hot day!

Weekly Wrap-Up

Later on, I went to see "The World's End" with my guy.  Alert the presses!  I never go to the movies in the theaters because I'm always so antsy.  I have to be multitasking, so it's very difficult for me to not start checking e-mails and sit still during a movie.  Am I the only one who is like this?  My guy bought some Sour Patch Watermelon slices, so at least I could snack.  :)

Weekly Wrap-Up
Look, I wore my dress out in public!

On the way back from the movie, we hit up the Greek Festival, which is always a favorite of mine.  My best childhood memories from the festival always included our childhood friend and the Loukoumades.  I have no idea where to find these year round, but it's just as well.  They are delicious, addicting, and way too easy to eat a dozen in 20 seconds flat!

Weekly Wrap-Up

Another great week with lots of fun and work.  I can't wait for this weekend because it'll be the last one before a few busy ones: weddings, a New Orleans trip with the family, and lots more studying.  Aaagh!

  1. You ate Filipino food?! I'm so jealous-- there are none out here in Nashville. I miss it! So glad you enjoyed it.

  2. I know! They are definitely missing that out there. At least there are delish Korean, Turkish, Jamaican, and Southern (duh!) restaurants out there!
