Perfectly Purple Summer Dress from Natasha!

This week, I have a post from Natasha of The Telltale Tasha.  You might remember the sewing challenge that we had for a Simple Dress.  Well, I can tell you now that the members of Stitch Once, Rip Twice have totally outdone themselves!  I cannot wait to post the round-up for the challenge in a couple of weeks.  You will be floored.

But lucky you, here's a sneak peek from one of the members!  When I saw the dress from Natasha below, I thought she looked just like a movie star.  No joke.  So, I'm just going to keep my mouth shut now and let the pictures and Natasha herself do the talking.  :)  Enjoy!

Hey Vintage Zest readers!!  Natasha here from Diane's sewing group "Stitch Once, Rip Twice" :-D  I'm representing The Telltale Tasha.

Summer style has the ability to be so versatile. Maxi skirts, mini skirts, tank tops, and crop tops, maxi dress and so much more!   I prefer, though, to live in dresses. They're so comfortable and cute!  And super easy because you don't have to coordinate separate pieces!  #win

I figured I've enough wrap bodices for the time being so I opted for the droop neck lol I got this fabric from Fashion Fabric Club.  It is described as Violet Blue Stripe Activewear ... I just call it purple.  Lol!

The fabric feels soo light against the skin.  And it's super forgiving :-)  I definitely recommend it.

I cut a 10 in the bodice and a 12 in the skirt, which was kind of refreshing because I usually have to cut the other way around.  Makes me feel like I actually have hips.  Lol!

Now that I feel like I've gotten into the swing of this sewing thing, I am starting to think about how to make each garment I sew my own so I decided to add zippers in the shoulder seams!

The zippers were only 8 inches long so I used a regular stitch length from the neck to where the zipper would start, backstitched and they used a basting stitch the rest of the way to the armhole.  I basted the zipper in place then took out the basting stitches from the shoulder seam.  Then I stitched again close to the zipper tape using my adjustable zipper & piping foot.  You may know from my last post, I am at no shortage of zippers of lol.  They're such a quick and easy pop of uniqueness.

I chose not to hem the armholes or the skirt because the ribbing on the dress is already such a nice finish.

overexposed for no reason at all lol

I almost didn't add elastic in the waist because I thought it sat exactly where I like it but then I thought that it might start to fall over time so I did end up adding in the elastic. I made no other changes to the dress. It sewed up perfect out of the envelope.

I definitely like the dress with the zips OPEN better than closed!
