Today, I have five simple tips that will help you keep your meal plan on track, even if you are a busy bee like me!
Five Easy Ways to Maintain a Healthy Meal Plan During the Week
1. Meal Plan!
A plan isn't a plan until you write it down. Scout out recipes that you want to eat during the week that fit into your goals. Plan out every breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack for the week. Then, go ahead and write down all the ingredients you need, so you are fully stocked up at home with everything you need! A bonus is that you will not be tempted to overbuy or pick up something extra, if you stick to your list.
2. Schedule "Off" Days
We all have days when we indulge a little, such as at birthday parties, family BBQs, or on lunch dates with friends. The key is that if you know ahead of time, make sure that you are really sticking to your plan before and after your scheduled indulgence. Give yourself some space to be a bit "off" from the plan, as long as it's just once in a while. Recently, I'm trying to make my weekend lunches the times where I stray, with an occasional restaurant tasting during the week.
3. Meal Prep
Isn't that the same thing as meal planning? Actually, no! As soon as you get home from the grocery store, start prepping! I've had a few times where I didn't prep right away, so I strayed from the meal plan for a day or two. Build prep time into your errand time, so you can get going right away with your healthy meals!
4. Try New Recipes
Sometimes it is easiest to keep it simple and stick with what you know... but then it can get boring. Shake it up! Swap healthy recipes with a friend or find that blog that shares healthy recipes regularly. Hint hint... Maybe use an ingredient you have been eyeing in the produce aisle. Get creative!
5. Have a Back-Up Plan
You may try a new recipe and find out that it isn't exactly what you were hoping for.
